Countryside Drives in Warwickshire You Need to Try.
The sun has appeared and there’s nothing quite like taking a scenic countryside drive on a bright, sunny day, windows down, fresh air filling the car, and a playlist of your favourite tunes setting the mood. If you’re craving an escape from the hustle and bustle, Warwickshire and its surroundings offer some of the most charming and peaceful routes in England. So, grab your keys, pack some snacks, and let’s hit the road!
1. The Cotswolds Loop, a Journey Through Timeless Villages.
One of our favourite drives starts in Stratford-upon-Avon and winds through the heart of the Cotswolds. Take the A3400 south towards Chipping Campden, a town that feels like it belongs in a storybook. From there, cruise towards Broadway, a village that oozes charm, with cosy tea rooms and the iconic Broadway Tower offering stunning views. Don’t forget to stop in Snowshill—if you visit in the summer, the lavender fields are simply breathtaking.
2. The Fosse Way, Scenic Drive.
If you love history, the Fosse Way is a must-drive. This ancient Roman road stretches through Warwickshire, offering a mix of historic intrigue and gorgeous countryside. Start in Warwick and follow the B4455 towards Moreton-in-Marsh, passing through charming villages like Halford and Stretton-on-Fosse. There’s something magical about driving along a road that’s been used for centuries.
3. The Avon Valley, Stratford to Bidford-on-Avon.
If you love river views, this drive is for you. Start in Stratford-upon-Avon and take the B439 through Welford-on-Avon, a charming village with a picture-perfect maypole. Then, continue to Bidford-on-Avon, a lovely spot to stretch your legs and enjoy the riverside scenery. There’s nothing quite like a leisurely drive alongside the Avon, with the sun glistening on the water.
4. Edge Hill and the Battlefields Route.
History and scenery combine beautifully on this drive. Start in Warwick and head towards Kineton before making your way to Edge Hill, the site of the first battle of the English Civil War in 1642. The views from the top are breathtaking—you can see for miles! It’s a fantastic drive for history buffs or anyone who appreciates a good scenic lookout.
5. Burton Dassett Hills, A Hidden Gem with Stunning Views.
If you’re looking for a peaceful drive with breathtaking scenery, Burton Dassett Hills is the perfect choice. Start in Warwick and follow the B4100 towards Gaydon before taking the winding roads up to the hills. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by rolling countryside, open skies, and some of the best panoramic views in Warwickshire. It’s the perfect place to park up, take a walk, and enjoy a picnic while soaking in the fresh country air.
